Case Study On Cottage Industry


P.D. Kanekar started the business of making wooden toys and fruits in 1947 in Sawantwadi. The products were produced at home (cottage). Many other cottage industries are producing the same products. 





The products are produced using old methods. The skills of people are used in the production of wooden toys and fruits. Since it is skill-based and old methods have used the culture of that area is preserved. 


As there are no machines used the production is less. P.D. Kanekar has employed people around his house and his family members who had the skill of lacquer painting. The wooden toys are made from whole wood and not sawdust. The wood is also available in the vicinity. The products (wooden toys and fruits) are highly demanded by people who visit Sawantwadi.
